Let me start with a few quick scenarios that I often go through and I am sure that everyone can relate to.
Scenario #1: You’re getting ready for a trip, and you have to make sure that you pack all of your power cords or adapters for the various electronics you “need” to have to get through your day: personal cell phone, work cell phone, iTouch, Digital Camera, Bluetooth earpiece (for the car), and PSP. Now you have to find space for all of these items and their power cords in your luggage. Then, sometimes you arrive at your destination only to find that you forgot one of these power cords and, regrettably, have to buy a quick replacement.
Scenario #2: You’re getting ready to head to bed, and you have to go through the never-ending routine of plugging in your cell phone(s), iPod, and Bluetooth earpiece. You probably have one or two designated spots where you plug them all in. This usually means there are a few long power cords strewn about your bedroom or office that take up space and probably look like a tangled mess.
Now that you are adding your own interpretations to the above scenarios in your mind, let me introduce you to Powermat. Powermat is an innovative wireless charging station that allows you to charge your favorite electronics without the tangled mess of power cords. I, for one, was a little skeptical at first, but once I got a hold of the Powermat, I was hooked. All you have to do is plug in the sleek black mat, lay it on any flat surface, enable your device (with either the Powercube or device receiver), and just drop the device on the mat. Once a device is placed on the mat you will hear a sound and a LED light will appear on the side of the mat letting you know that your device is charging. There is even a light magnetic pull that helps bring the device into the proper position on the mat.
In North America, each Powermat ships with a Powercube. This accessory will charge any single device with a standard USB or micro USB connection. Additional Powercube connection tips can be purchased for charging devices that don’t charge via USB. If you want to charge multiple devices simultaneously, you must purchase additional Powercubes, or you can choose to purchase Powermat’s customized device receivers. With these receivers (or multiple Powercubes), you can place up to three devices on each Powermat, and they will all charge simultaneously. Once a device is fully charged, that item’s indicator light will shut off and stop charging that particular device while still charging the others in place. The Powermat also boasts that it will charge all three devices just as fast as when they are normally charged with their individual power cords!
The Powermat comes in two forms. One for the home or office and the other for travel. The portable Powermat actually folds up and comes with its own case for easy, on-the-go storage. Powermat has come up with innovative solutions that enable almost every popular hand-held electronic device on the market to be charged wirelessly. Cell phones, MP3 players, digital cameras, hand-held gaming systems, and even portable GPS units can all be charged using Powermat. These innovative solutions do enable your devices to be charged wirelessly, but they do cost a bit extra which is probably the only real chink the Powermat’s armor.
You can pick up the Powermat online at Amazon.com for $99 and the receivers for each device will run you between $30 and $40 dollars. The price may be a little high but the transformation from a tangled mess of power cords to wireless freedom is worth it!
