FreshRadar is run by a team of contributing writers to provide positive reviews of consumable goods and media to its readers.
The vision for this website came from the intersection of our personal experiences producing art, media, goods, and services and the realization that it is exceedingly easy to be a critic. We strongly believe one of the easiest and most cowardly things a person can do is spend their time speaking negatively about the things everyone else is making or doing all while never attempting to make or do anything themselves.
This conviction is strongly reinforced by a famous quote from Theodore Roosevelt:
“The poorest way to face life is to face it with a sneer. There are many men who feel a kind of twister pride in cynicism; there are many who confine themselves to criticism of the way others do what they themselves dare not even attempt…It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.”
Growing out of this conviction, the content and culture of FreshRadar always strives to be positive. Specifically, instead of writing typical reviews for consumable goods and media where each item is rated with some scale of good to bad, this site only features positive reviews: Recommendations.
This does not mean every writer must like every product or piece of media he or she consumes. Nor is it meant to provoke connotations of censorship or watered-down reviews. Rather, when a writer feels favorably about a consumable good, they write a post recommending it to the site’s readers. When they encounter another good they disapprove of, they simply move on and look for another item they do want to recommend.
No second-hand recommendations will be published on Fresh Radar. A writer may only write about goods or media which he or she has personally consumed. A wide range of goods and media are acceptable for writing about. Obvious ones include books, music, movies, electronics, games, clothing, and almost anything else that is sold online.
